A member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly of South Sudan Hon. Stephen Lual says the country is on track ahead of the 2026 elections.

JUBA — Hon. Stephen Lual Ngor has said South Sudan is making steady progress toward holding elections as scheduled, describing the process as a decisive step in consolidating peace under President Salva Kiir.
The member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly praised the recent briefing to the United Nations Security Council by South Sudan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Cecilia Adut Deng.
He said the address clearly demonstrated the country’s readiness to conclude the transitional period through free, fair and credible elections.
Stephen said the government has shown firm commitment to fully implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement, which he described as the only viable framework for achieving lasting peace and strengthening state institutions.
He stressed that President Kiir continues to guide the country toward stability, national unity and a democratic transition through the ballot box.
“Holding elections on time is not only a constitutional obligation but also a historic milestone that will enhance national legitimacy and affirm the sovereign will of the people,” Stephen said.
He noted that the government is taking concrete steps to create a secure and conducive environment for the electoral process.
Authorities, he said, are working to protect civilians, facilitate humanitarian access across the country and maintain calm as preparations advance.Stephen added that leaders are managing the transitional period with responsibility and political wisdom while remaining open to dialogue to resolve outstanding challenges within the peace agreement framework.
He urged the international community to adopt a constructive and balanced approach that supports the peace process and strengthens de-escalation efforts.
At the same time, he called for firm action against individuals or groups seeking to undermine stability.The lawmaker reaffirmed South Sudan’s cooperation with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and commended the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and other regional and international partners for their continued support.
Stephen also emphasized the need to invest in and empower young people socially and economically, saying youth development remains critical to sustaining peace and building a secure, just and prosperous nation.
He concluded that South Sudan is moving forward with determination to complete the peace process and safeguard the gains achieved so far.
