A major dispute has rocked African football after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruled in favor of Morocco in its contentious case against Senegal, awarding the match by forfeit and significantly altering the race for the Africa Cup of Nations trophy.

In its official determination, CAF’s Appeals Committee found that the conduct of the Senegalese team fell under violations of Articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations. Consequently, the governing body awarded the match to Morocco with a recorded scoreline of 3–0.

The ruling effectively shifts the competitive advantage to Morocco, placing the North African side in a commanding position to claim the title — a development that has intensified scrutiny over administrative decisions influencing tournament outcomes. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) reacted sharply, issuing a formal statement condemning the decision in strong terms.

The federation described the ruling as “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,” adding that it “discredits African football.”Senegal’s governing body further announced that it will challenge the decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, based in Lausanne. The appeal, it said, will be filed “as soon as possible” in a bid to defend “the rights and interests of Senegalese football.

”Despite the setback, the FSF reaffirmed its commitment to what it called “the values of integrity and sporting justice,” signaling that it intends to pursue all available legal avenues. The controversy has sparked widespread debate across the continent, raising concerns about governance, regulatory enforcement, and the broader credibility of African football competitions.

With the case now heading to international arbitration, uncertainty remains over the final outcome and whether Morocco’s path to the trophy will ultimately stand.
