Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday officiated the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed government officials at the State House in Juba, urging citizens to remain peaceful, united, and focused on stability.Among those who took the oath of office was Hon. Peter Chaleman Cawach, appointed as Presidential Advisor for Peace.
Chaleman, a member of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly, is known for his efforts in promoting peace, particularly in the Upper Nile region.Hon. Dr. Joseph Nguen Monytuil was also sworn in as Governor of Unity State, returning to a position he previously held. He has been credited with contributing to stability in the region, and his reappointment brings expectations for continued peacebuilding and development.The event also included the swearing-in of three Deputy Governors: Hon. Isaac Luka Manga (Lakes State), Hon. William Gatjang Giing (Unity State), and Hon. Karlo Andrew Akwo Ajert (Eastern Equatoria State).
These appointments highlight the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive leadership and implement the peace agreement.In his address, President Kiir urged the newly appointed officials to focus on delivering services, strengthening cooperation, and advancing peace across the country. He emphasized the need for unity among political leaders and called for stronger efforts to build harmony within communities.
He reminded the audience of the devastating effects of conflict and stressed the importance of working together to find lasting solutions.Vice President for Infrastructure Taban Deng Gai encouraged the officials to prioritize reconciliation and peaceful coexistence. He also called on Unity State authorities to remove roadblocks that negatively impact trade and economic activities.
Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs Tut Gatluak Manime urged leaders to strengthen peace initiatives in Unity State and Upper Nile, including improving relations with neighboring communities such as those in the Ruweng Administrative Area.At the same time, Akol Paul Kordit praised the appointments and encouraged leaders to serve with honesty and work together across political divides.
Stephen Par Kuol also expressed support, reaffirming commitment to the peace process and efforts to achieve lasting stability.President Kiir concluded by urging leaders to work collectively for the good of the nation, emphasizing shared responsibility in achieving peace and sustainable development.
